VACCINATIONS: All vaccinations delivered by suitably trained pharmacists have always been covered by indemnity insurance as part of the standard PDA membership apart from Covid-19. For new membership renewals after January 1st, 2026, Covid-19 vaccinations are now also automatically covered.

Back in April, the PDA provided a pragmatic approach to the use of PPE and other measures aimed at optimising safety for patients, customers and staff.     In September the PDA published concerns about undue pressure being placed on pharmacists to deliver high volumes of flu vaccinations. We welcome the statement from the GPhC on 22 October which addresses the concerns raised by PDA members and reiterates the required behavior of pharmacy owners. 

  • PDA say health & safety must be priority after Community pharmacists raise concerns over instructions to avoid test and trace rules

    The PDA Union is hearing from employed pharmacists at several multiples who have been instructed by their employers to turn off the NHS COVID-19 test and trace app when at work and worryingly some pharmacists are being told to refuse to ‘self-isolate’ if contacted by track and trace in respect of a colleague who has tested positive. This is also a significant concern for locum members who may be working in these multiples’ pharmacies. 

  • PDA member survey shows prescription charges in England regularly prevent patients from receiving their medicines

    The results of a survey of PDA members reveals widespread occurrences of patients being unable to afford to pay for the medicines they need. The PDA is a member of the Prescription Charges Coalition, a group of organisations calling on the UK Government to scrap prescription charges in England for people with long-term conditions.
