Health and Safety reminder: Ventilation in the Pharmacy

In response to member feedback, the PDA is reminding all pharmacy employers about their obligation to ensure adequate ventilation in workplaces by sharing HSE (Health and Safety Executive) guidance on the topic.

Some pharmacists remain concerned that they are being asked to work in poorly ventilated workplaces and highlight that many consultation rooms were apparently installed without any ventilation.

Employers have a legal duty to maintain safe workplaces and particularly in the pandemic that means adequate ventilation. Employees and locums should not work in unsafe environments.

Members can contact the PDA Service Centre to receive guidance on their legal rights to challenge unsafe working conditions.

Full HSE guidance on “Ventilation and air conditioning during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic“ is available here.
