PDA LGBT+ Network responds to NHS consultation on Children and Young People’s Gender Service Specification

A recent NHS consultation asked for views on proposed changes to the service specification for specialist gender incongruence services for children and young people, which describes how current and future providers of NHS Children and Young People’s Gender Services will deliver the service.

Prior to responding, the PDA LGBT+ Network met to discuss the consultation and developed the response based on the views of the wider network members.

Adam Somerville, resident pharmacist and President of the PDA LGBT+ Network, said “The changes proposed to the Children and Young People’s Gender Identity Service as a result of the Cass report represent a significant change in direction for gender affirming healthcare. The PDA LGBT+ Network met to discuss the proposed changes and considered these against the network’s previous position statement on the care of patients with gender incongruence. The committee strongly advocates for increased access to person-centred care of the highest quality. We encourage members to revisit our earlier position statement and read our response to the proposals.”

The LGBT+ Network is a semi-autonomous member network of the PDA with a mission to enable Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender pharmacists to realise their full potential and raise their profile by being educationally, socially and politically active. Members do not have to be part of the LGBT+ community, and allies are also very welcome. The LGBT+ Pharmacists’ Network concerns itself with issues of special relevance to LGBT+ pharmacists within the UK.
