PDA welcomes £500 payment for Northern Ireland health workers

The PDA Union, which represents pharmacists across the UK, has welcomed the announcement from Northern Ireland Health Minister Robin Swann that he intends to provide a one-off £500 special recognition payment to health and social care workers due to their work during the coronavirus pandemic.

PDA supports citizen group petition to save community pharmacies from closure

The PDA have added their support to a petition organised by Grassroots campaigning organisation, 38 Degrees, that calls on the Westminster government to recompense pharmacies for the extra costs they have incurred by staying open to provide health services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

PDA member survey shows prescription charges in England regularly prevent patients from receiving their medicines

The results of a survey of PDA members reveals widespread occurrences of patients being unable to afford to pay for the medicines they need. The PDA is a member of the Prescription Charges Coalition, a group of organisations calling on the UK Government to scrap prescription charges in England for people with long-term conditions.

PDA attends the 9th annual congress of EPhEU

Coroner highlights the role of poor medicines review in death of patient

The BMJ recently reported on the sad death of a patient who died of a tramadol overdose. The patient was found to have significant quantities of unused repeat medicines in their home.

PDA comment on announcements of pay increases for public servants

Pharmacists working in the NHS will understandably question why they were not included in the government's announcement this week. The PDA advises caution when reading the reports of the increases as some key facts have been left out of the Treasury press release.

PDA comment on Wright review of PSNC

The PDA have welcomed the publication of the review by Professor David Wright of the PSNC as we have long recognised the need for these structures to be updated. PDA believe that the review and subsequent debate presents a significant opportunity for better representation of community pharmacy in England.
